Pullstring's Story
Midwest Britpop, Alt-Rock, Pop-Punk in denial… you get the idea. Hailing from Minneapolis, Pullstring’s nostalgic brand of alt-rock channels the energy of the ’90s and early 2000s. Paying homage to influences like Green Day and The Replacements, the band delivers a high-energy live show anywhere there’s a PA and a crowd willing to listen.
Underneath the driving guitars and infectious melodies, Pullstring explores the tension and tenderness of being a young adult in the 2020s. Their lyrics confront loneliness, shifting identity, and the early sparks of relationships with honesty and relatability. Yet even in their most vulnerable moments, the band threads in a sense of humor and lightness that keeps their sound warm and inviting.
With 100+ shows under their belt, Pullstring is no stranger to life on the road. They’ve taken their high-energy set to venues including 7th Street Entry (Minneapolis, MN), the Maintenance Shop (Ames, IA), and Shank Hall (Milwaukee, WI), and have appeared on festival lineups such as Big Turn Music Fest, KURE Fest, and Northwoods Rock Rally. Along the way, they’ve shared the stage with touring acts like ALEXSUCKS, George Clanton, The Melismatics, and We Are Scientists.

"Sincere, sentimental and introspective, Pullstring explores human vulnerability and fragility in a heart-aching but simultaneously heart-warming way."
"Twin Cities newcomers Pullstring have an “everyday man rock band” sound that has gotten them gigs seemingly everyday this year. They’ve toured the Midwest, played Twin Cities staples venues like Turf Club and 7th St Entry, and have opened for established names like the Melismatics, We Are Scientists, and ALEXSUCKS."
"The up tempo energy of this track [When It Began] is quintessential indie rock; the chord changes on the chorus feel like they were probably first jammed out in a garage session. We mean that with the highest praise! The song feels like it has a gritty, rooted style to it. The vocals remind me a bit of what I first liked about Thrice’s Dustin Kensrue. I really appreciate the “don’t let life pass you by” line. There’s a lot of that going on with people merely enduring life; this song reminds us to live with joy and vibrancy. The expressive and energetic guitar solo accentuates the “seize the day” sentiment of the track."
"Pullstring have a knack for displaying their intention of the song within the first few seconds. There are no impulsive changes, the flow is maintained as a sacrosanct part of their passion for music."

"With heart-felt lyrics, a sense of professionalism, and a sense of passion that radiated from the stage, I found myself wanting to move closer and closer to the stage with every song that they played."
"In short, the Minneapolis band are gifted not only in music but also in the warmth they radiate."
"...I just loved that Pullstring could show multiple sides of their craft while keeping the energy and passion high. On top of it all, it was truly flawless. Pullstring has something that I feel a lot of bands only dream of, and that is sheer perfection when it comes to playing together as a cohesive band.
